Understanding Your Partner

Look back at the life you have shared, and understanding follows.

All Meditation Benefits

“This is not what I got married for…”

You would like to get back to how it felt at the start. You want to do this well. But you do not know which thread to pull first, and that particular helplessness seems to visit every couple at least once.

The moment the interest thins out and the questions stop, it is time to look back at the life you have lived as a couple.

Empty out this much

  • Comparing your husband or wife with other people’s
  • The mind that stopped being grateful
  • Handing every hard situation to the other person as their fault
  • The self-centred assumption that they should know without being told
  • Everything you have stored up and not said

The Releasing Method

Look back together, and you can accept each other as you are

Look back at the life you have built as a couple and release what you find, and a surprising number of the problems between you resolve themselves.

At some point you are holding each other’s gaze a little longer. You ask your wife what she is dreaming about. You feel grateful for your husband’s ordinary day.

Whoever is braver should start first. Both of you together is better still.

What changes

  • You become honest about what you actually feel
  • You can say what you want without watching their mood first
  • Gratitude gets expressed instead of assumed
  • Hard situations get met by asking each other, and answering
  • You accept the ways you are different, comfortably
